Nomination
I was nominated this year for the American Mountain Guide Association “Guide of the Year” award. In member voting one of the other two nominees won out. Pat Ormond is a very deserving candidate and long-time colleague. All the due congratulations.
In the nomination process they shared with me the text of the nominations themselves. Pretty high praise therein.
“Over the years Jed has served as a quiet yet powerful voice for supporting the guide community through information sharing, mentorship, and continual professional development. Additionally, his writing work expands the AMGA presence outside of the guide sphere."
"Continuously leading role model for professionalism and transparency and driving to improve his craft while elevating all of us to a higher standard."
"Jed has, for many years, exemplified excellence in the profession of mountain guiding. From a strong personal resume of significant achievements as an alpinist and skier to an even more impressive resume of climbs and ski descents that he has guided professionally, Jed has constantly pushed the conception of what routes and objectives are reasonable to guide. He inspires his clients and trains them well for these difficult objectives, and guides working in his region notice this. As such, he has developed into a guide that most mountain guides recognize and try to emulate, both in personal and professional achievement. And he makes those guides around him better because of the consistency at which he is able to deliver such a good product. Furthermore, Jed has shown his dedication to the profession, his colleagues, and the AMGA by holding companies to a high standard and by promoting the sharing of information between guides, from detailed route information and beta to wage transparency and working conditions. He has uplifted the community by sharing his yearly data on his work and his earnings, helping other guides see what is possible and make better decisions in their careers. Jed has been a valuable member of the guiding community for a long time and I think it's time that he receives some recognition."
